An African-American man, Seroy is convicted for arson and sent to Unit B. Since he is black he has a couple of fights with The Aryan Brotherhood. He is also seen attempting to rape a few white inmates. Although he is black, he is not seen affiliating with The Homeboys.
Morbidly obese (Yarbrough has weighed over 700 lbs.), Seroy is incarcerated for arson. He first appears attempting to rape inmate Franklin Winthrop, but he is told to back off by the The Aryans. The Aryans, led by Vernon Schillinger, do this only to make Winthrop their sex slave, also known as being a "prag". Seroy is then later hired by inmate Timmy Kirk to set up the burning of a Catholic church at which chaplain Father Ray Mukada resides. Seroy then informs Warden Leo Glynn, who threatens him with solitary confinement, that Kirk ordered the fire to be set.
Seroy is framed for the murder of Harrison Beecher, the father of inmate Tobias Beecher. Seroy is found not guilty and he is seen in Unit B for the remainder of the season. On the extended version of Oz's finale, "Exeunt Omnes", Seroy approaches Aryan inmate James Robson threatening to rape him. Robson however puts up no fight as he is pending a transfer to Unit E, the AIDS ward and knowingly infects Seroy with HIV by consenting to be sodomized by Seroy. He learns of this only as Robson is being transferred, however. Seroy's last scene is sitting next to Jewish inmate Lemuel Idzik on the macbeth play when Tobias Beecher stabs Vernon Schillinger to death by accident.
