Character Summary[]

Impressed with Brass' talent at basketball, Unit Manager Tim McManus recruits him to play in a pick-up game against inmate Jackson Vahue. After his Achilles tendon is cut by Carlos Martinez, he becomes bitter and begins taking his frustrations out to both inmates and staff members. Brass played college basketball at the University of Iowa, a team which finished in the bottom of the Big 10 standings in each of his four seasons.

Plot Summary[]

Season 4[]

Brass does so well in the tournament that he gets a look from an NBA scout. This look upsets the Latino inmates who lost a bet due to a performance by Brass and they set up the slicing of his Achilles tendon.

Season 5[]

Brass is then confined to a cane for the rest of his life and has an even harder time working in Oz as a result. Brass later purchases a lottery ticket for inmate Bob Rebadow that ends up winning the $2 million jackpot. Overjoyed, Brass leaves Oz on a vacation, stealing the money from Rebadow, which he is later remorseful for.

Season 6[]

Brass comes back to Oz and resumes working as a guard. When the inmate who sliced his tendon dies, he uses it as a revenge opportunity on Latino leader Enrique Morales, falsely accusing him of ordering the attack (though this was true, but without proof), getting Morales sent to solitary and cutting both of his tendons. Fellow CO Sean Murphy helps Brass in this, but later shows remorse and tells Warden Leo Glynn everything, resulting in Brass losing a month's pay, but keeping his job. Later Brass talks to Jackson Vahue (who is now playing for a team called the Knights) during his visit to talk to prisoners and asks Vahue for an invite into the locker room at half time. When Vahue says no, Brass tries to kill him at a practice and gets arrested as a result, apparently happy that this act gave him some sort of the fame he always wanted from basketball.
