Character Summary[]

"Prisoner number 98N744, Antonio Nappa. Convicted June 4, '98 - Murder in the second degree. Sentence: 80 years, up for parole in 50."
The Narrator[src]

Nappa is a Sicilian mob boss sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing a man in his strip club. He takes control of the Italians after Peter Schibetta is sent to the psych ward. He also works in the kitchen. He partners with Kenny Wangler to sell drugs. Nappa's life is ruined when Simon Adebisi infects him with HIV by pricking him with an AIDS-infected needle. This would lead to his demise in Unit E, the AIDS/HIV unit of Oz, as he was suffocated in his sleep by his cellmate.

Plot Summary[]

Background[]

At some point, Nappa became a high ranking Capo in the Sicilian Mafia. After his old friend and boss Nino Schibetta was arrested, he assumed control over the mafia.

Arrest[]

A flashback shows Nappa and one of his men killing a man at his Strip Club. The reasons are unknown, but this would land him 80 years in the Oswald State Correctional Facility, with him being eligible for parole in 50 years.

Season 2[]

Nappa first arrives in Oz being told by both Warden Glynn and Tim McManus that he cannot commit revenge against the man who raped Peter Schibetta. As Schibetta's actual godfather, he goes to Sicilian staff member Lenny Burrano and asks him what Simon Adebisi, Schibetta’s rapist, values most. He is told it’s heroin. Nappa advises Burrano to suggest to Glynn to conduct a random drug test on the prisoners — during which, Burrano selects Adebisi as one of the inmates for testing.

Adebisi later hopes to attempt to stab the Sicilians in the cafeteria until an elderly, African inmate named Kipekemie Jara dissuades him. Without Adebisi, the Homeboys are no longer a threat so Nappa steals their drugs so they can come and work for him. He comes to an agreement with Wangler to work as partners. Wangler must, however, first kill Jara so the Sicilians can once again control Adebisi. Wangler and Jara work on the same kitchen detail, so Wangler can easily stab Jara with a kitchen knife in the cafeteria with no correctional officers around to interfere due to being understaffed. Wangler does so, Jara dies, and the Sicilians accept the Homeboys as their partners. Adebisi gets blamed for Jara’s murder by the authorities but is found not guilty in a court of law due to insanity and is transferred out of the general population and into Oz’s psych unit. He is placed in a cell next to his old rival, Peter Schibetta.

Season 3[]

The Sicilians, with help from Wangler, now run drugs in Oz. Adebisi is fully rehabilitated and gets released from the psych ward. The first thing Adebisi does when he’s transferred back to Emerald City is thank Nappa for having Jara killed. Nappa believes Adebisi is sincere, and decides he can be of help to the Wiseguys. However, Adebisi goes to work in the AIDS ward and later stabs Nappa with an AIDS-infected needle without Nappa being aware that Adebisi pricked him with a needle. Adebisi claims it was not intentional and blames his comb for the stabbing. Wangler's friend and fellow Homeboy, new inmate Malcolm Coyle, has a job working in the cafeteria. He also would like to be apart of the drug trade. Nappa refuses, however, and McManus transfers Coyle off of the kitchen crew and into the prison barbershop to be the barber’s assistant. Nappa turns out to be right about Coyle when inmate Augustus Hill turns Coyle in to the Law for murdering a Sicilian family on the outside of Oz. Fearing revenge from Wangler, Kareem Said, leader of the Muslims, calls a meeting of the heads of the Sicilians, The Latinos and The Aryans to protect Hill from the Homeboys. To demonstrate his loyalty, Nappa has Coyle murdered. Later, Nappa expresses his homophobia to Adebisi. Shortly afterwards, Dr. Gloria Nathan tells Nappa that he is HIV positive, so he is moved to Unit E, the AIDS/HIV ward.

Nappa decides to publish an autobiography which would focus on his criminal activity. The Drag Queens alert Chucky Pancamo about this, and after received permission from the new boss of the mob, Pancamo pays a gay inmate named Nat Ginzburg (Nappa's cellmate and secretary), to murder Nappa. Ginzburg suffocated Nappa in his sleep with a pillow later that night.

Season 6[]

Nappa returns as a ghost in the Afterlife to narrate an episode with Hill.
